Vandita Pant, Group Treasurer and Head of Europe will speak at the PfW Ambassador's Reception at Linklaters on 6 December. Vandita has more than 25 years of international experience having worked in a variety of executive roles in India, Singapore, Japan, and for the last 12 years, in London. Vandita joined BHP Billiton in January 2016 as Group Treasurer and Head of Europe. In this capacity she is responsible for BHP Billiton Group’s structural financial risk, liquidity investment portfolio, corporate finance & Debt portfolio, capital management related functions and involved in all the strategic transactions which have balance-sheet impact. Vandita also heads BHP Billiton’s operations in Europe and as part of her accountabilities, plays a pivotal role in representing BHP Billiton in this region. On 1 November 2017 16 energy company CEO's/NED's  discussed gender diversity in energy with Claire Perry, Minister for Climate Change and Energy (BEIS)  at the Corinthia Hotel in Westminster. Each participant offered to do more to increase gender diversity in their companies and key themes included sharing good practice, the importance of role models, flexible working and career-breaks, the role of executive search firms, transparency and benchmarks and the importance of encouraging girls in STEM. We hope to host future events with the Minister to help move the dial on the numbers of women in middle and senior management and in leadership in energy and encourge companies to become supporters and sponsors and to work closer with us. On 15 June 2017 POWERful Women will be celebrating it's 3rd Anniversary with a drinks reception at the House of Lords.  Our Chief Guest Speaker will be Alex Chisholm, Permanent Secretary for the Department of Business Energy and Industrial Strategy.  The theme for this year's event is 'Reporting and Setting Targets'.  Some of our POWERful Women sponsorsing and pledging companies have reported movement in their statistics regarding the number of women on their boards and executive boards, but with still only 6% and 9% respectively, the energy sector is falling way behind recent recommendations.  It's no secret that gender diversity is good for business so we look foward to views on why the energy sector is lagging so far behind....

POWERful Women has been pooling resources with other women's groups in energy via the Energy Sector Women's Networking Group which meets at BEIS.  Together we devised a great opportunity for women in middle management to engage in speed-mentoring and networking in September last year with support from Alex Chisholm. On 11 May 2017 two members from the group POWERful Women and MentorSET hosted a further speed-mentoring event at the All-Energy conference, SECC, Glasgow.  The event aimed to raise the profile of the benefits of mentoring as an enabler in the growth of skills in the energy sector, with a particular focus on the development of females in the industry. A fantastic opportunity has come up to lead the management of POWERful Women (PfW), a professional initiative that exists to advance the leadership and development of women across the UK's energy sector, during an exciting period as we look to embark on the next stage of growth. A network of over 1,500 industry, academia, political representatives and womens' groups that span all parts of the sector, PfW supports and encourages energy companies to appoint more women to senior roles as part of building stronger businesses. Emily Spearman BEng (Hons) AIEMA MBA CEng MEI Emily Spearman is a Chartered Energy Engineer with the Energy Institute (EI); currently she is a Senior Quality Manager at DONG Energy, having previously worked as an Asset Manager at DONG Energy and Associate Director/Senior Engineer at URS Scott Wilson. In addition to offshore renewable energy, she also has considerable experience of the global energy and oil and gas industries, having worked as an engineer at Parsons Brinckerhoff and global oil field service and technology company, Schlumberger. Emily fulfils a number of roles on committees in the energy sector, including being on the Energy Expert Panel for the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE).
