Here’s How To Fix Renewable Energy’s Diversity Problem – Forbes

 

 

“The energy industry has long been an old boy’s club. This is especially true in the U.K. where inequalities in education and economic opportunities are embedded across the country.

Many of the important contributions and advances in the industry have been made by only one section of society, namely white, well-educated men. The lack of female and diverse voices from the sector is deafening and needs to be urgently addressed.

In the U.K., research and campaigning from Powerful Women, a charity, has shone a consistent light on the problem. In its most recent analysis, 79% of the U.K.’s leading energy companies have no women in senior leadership positions, and 38% of companies in the sector have no female board members.

This data represents an improvement on previous years as more companies recognize they are failing on diversity and inclusion. But progress remains stubbornly low, and, in some cases, it has gone backwards.”
