NEW REPORT: ‘The net zero race: the role of DEI in the roadmap to a net zero future’

A greater focus on diversity, equity and inclusion will help, not hinder, progress to net zero – that’s the conclusion of a new report published by National Grid and POWERful Women to mark Net Zero Week 2023.

Four years on from the net zero target becoming UK law, the joint report explores the critical topic of people and talent for a successful energy transition.

The research is based on interviews with industry leaders, surveys of experts and a literature review, and reveals that net zero and DEI go hand in hand:

  • A more diverse workforce brings skills and diversity of thought to enable industry to find innovative solutions
  • Better DEI ensures solutions are fair and representative of society, which means consumer buy-in and behaviour change
  • An equitable and inclusive workplace culture means talent is brought in, cultivated and retained more successfully.

“At a time when we need to move faster towards a clean energy transition, it’s crucial the energy industry has the right mix of mindsets and perspectives to overcome the challenges in the years to come, and also leverage opportunities along the way.”  –  Cordi O’Hara, President of Electricity Distribution, National Grid
