Privacy Policy

 

POWERful Women is a professional initiative to advance gender diversity within the energy sector. It is independent of but supported by the Energy Institute (EI), which provides a Secretariat. As required by data protection law, the EI is registered with the Office of the Information Commissioner. The EI’s registration number is Z2259229. The EI’s full Privacy Policy can be found here.

 

POWERful Women is committed to respecting the privacy of its subscribers and has taken steps to be compliant with data protection law – the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR) and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

 

The personal data we hold may include email addresses, full names, job titles, organisation names, telephone numbers and business addresses, for the purposes of keeping subscribers informed about our activities through our routine newsletter, ad hoc alerts and event invitations, and to enable pursuit of our goals. Our communications are intended to be relevant and proportionate and have a minimal privacy impact.

 

The lawful basis on which we hold and process personal data of our subscribers is consent. Subscribers are able to withdraw their consent at any time using the link at the bottom of any newsletter from POWERful Women or contacting the Secretariat at info@powerfulwomen.org.uk. POWERful Women also has a legitimate interest where you are a previous customer, in keeping you informed, in a proportionate way, about similar products or services – unless or until you have opted out.

 

In pursuing our goals POWERful Women relies on the support of professionals, experts and partners in our field. We therefore also have a legitimate interest in processing personal data where you are working with us as a relevant expert, speaker, volunteer or stakeholder.

 

The data is held on Highrise (Basecamp LLC) and MailChimp (The Rocket Science Group, Atlanta), and managed on the MailChimp mailing platform for the delivery of POWERful Women communications. Highrise and MailChimp are certified under the EU-US ‘Privacy Shield’ and have in addition provided ‘Data Processing Addendums’ obligating them to comply with European data protection law.

 

POWERful Women runs events in pursuit of our goals and to support networking of our community. Where we jointly organise an event with a partner, we collect your registration details on behalf of both organisations and pass them to our partner. This is made clear prior to registration. Where larger conferences are managed by the EI itself, this will also be made clear and will be in done, in accordance with the EI’s Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions.

 

We will only share data with third parties in the case of trusted ‘data processors’ or ‘joint data controllers’ with whom we have contracts in place to ensure onward data protection, or where we are required by law to do so.

 

We will respond when requested to any data access request in line with data protection law. We will, if also asked, respect the right of the individual to be forgotten entirely.

Cookie Notice

 

The POWERful Women website makes use of ‘cookies’ in order to improve the use of the website, to provide a more convenient and relevant experience to you, by collecting information about visits to the website. Cookies are also used generally to keep a record of your details in order to recognise you the next time you visit.

 

They use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google Inc. Google Analytics sets cookies in order to evaluate your use of the website and compile reports for us on activity on the website. We use the information to compile reports and to help us improve the website. The cookies collect information in an anonymous form only. We have also implemented Google Analytics features based on Display Advertising (Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting).

 

Google stores the information collected by the cookie on servers in the United States. Google may also transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law, or where such third parties process the information on Google’s behalf. Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google. By using the website, you consent to the processing of data about you by Google in the manner and for the purposes set out above.

 

You can opt-out of Google Analytics for Display Advertising and customize Google Display Network ads using the Ad Settings tool. As an added privacy measure, you can use Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
